Brief History

Rowleys Drive to John Summers Ground (Ty Calon)

Founded during the 1969/70 season as the rugby section of BSC Shotton we have been part of the North Wales rugby scene for over 50 years. We played under the BSC banner until the early 90's when a merger with local rivals Deeside RFC saw the club emerge as Afon Dee RFC. Although the club continued to play the change in name lead to confusion as to where the club was based. After a few years the club took the decision to change the name again to one that not only reflected the area we came from. But also the club heritage so Shotton Steel RFC was chosen.

Since that decision was made the club has grown to include Mini's, Juniors, Mens and Ladies teams.

In 2018 the club were given the opportunity to work in conjunction with the WRU, local authority and Deeside Community Trust to develop a brand new Community Sports and Education Hub on the site of the former John Summers High School. Sadly after 50 years we have left Rowleys Drive but we now have a future in a purpose built rugby facility which is in the heart of our local community.
